The handiwork of George Black can be seen from the streets of Old Salem to the homesteads of Guyana. For 80 years, his handmade bricks were used in the construction of buildings in Winston-Salem, Colonial Williamsburg and throughout the Southeast. With a passion for his craft, he overcame adversity and inequality to build a legacy that carries on to this day.

The George Black house was built in 1900 and the brickyard added in 1934. From there, Mr. Black used Carolina red clay and his traditional hand-molding technique to continue making durable bricks for decades thereafter. The house and brickyard are a local landmark and rightfully included on the National Register of Historic Places.
