Winston-Salem experienced an economic surge in the early 20th Century, and city leaders realized a new train station was needed to accommodate the rapidly growing population. Union Station was built in 1926 to be that centerpiece. In fact, she was the only station in North Carolina with rails that ran in all four directions.
This symbol of transportation history has been restored to its original glory and recently reopened as a local tourist attraction.
