Julius Mickey and his brother opened their humble tin shop in 1856 on the corner of Main and Belews Street in the town of Salem. Two years later, Mickey erected a giant tin coffee pot to advertise his capabilities as a tinsmith.
In short order, his business boomed and a legend was born. The coffee pot still stands today as one of the key icons of Winston-Salem.
